It was a privilege to record Harbour My Heart in Mill Valley at Tiki Town Studios,, just miles away from the scene of the crime that inspired the song. I had planned to do two songs with Scott and Tom. After a session while dining at Sammy Hagar's restaurant El Paseo, my sister in law, Shelly, encouraged me to talk to Scott about recording two more songs. He enthusiastically selected Harbour My Heart as one of the choices without knowing anything about my inspiration.
Inspiration isn't quite the right word. Writing the song was for me, a way to try to process an incredibly evil act. Recording the vocals while looking out over the body of water where a beautiful young woman and her unborn child were ultimately found was very emotional.
After performing this song at the Voices Carry event (held as an alternative event to Bill Cosby's show in Kitchener) on January 7, 2015, I knew I wanted to use it to help somehow.
Scott and I have decided that ALL proceeds from the sales of Harbour My Heart will go to help victims of sexual assault in our region. Unfortunately, as happy as I am to see the cause being taken up by a few high profile people, there will always be another little boy or little girl who will say Me Too
